Camel Tours:

Camels are a fascinating animal with a unique character. If not for Camels, Bedouin life in the Desert would have been impossible. Spending time travelling through the Desert is the epitome of the Bedouin experience. Don't forget though that Desert life is a hard life... so for the longer treks you may well get sore!

  • The full day and longer treks start in the morning (9-10am). The shorter treks can be taken at anytime and would usually start or finish in Rum Village.

  • The short tours (3 hours and less) can be taken as a 'add on' to most other tours that we offer.

  • All these tours are very flexible and can be taken as stated; with or without an overnight stay, or combined into a multiple day & night stay/s.

  • As a general rule Camel guides speak less English than other guides (Hiking, Jeep Tour guides).

Camel Dreams

3 day, 3 night Camel Trek

Camels are often referred to as “the Ships of the Desert”. Camels were and continue to be a very important part of Bedouin life. Without them the long journeys across the desert in the past would have been impossible. For the adventurous, a 3 day Camel Trek is an excellent way to immerse yourself into the old way of life. The pace & atmosphere of travelling by Camel is very different to travelling by Jeep.

One Day Camel Trek

Camels are often referred to as “the Ships of the Desert”. Camels were and continue to be a very important part of Bedouin life. Without them the long journeys across the desert, in the past would have been impossible. To spend a day exploring on this remarkable creature is a journey and an experience not to be missed. The pace of the Camel is very different to travelling by jeep. This tour will not cover the most ground but it is about the experience, and authenticity.

“So glad we chose to go with Bedouin Directions. We had an absolutely fantastic time right from the start. We decided to go for the camel trekking (a la Lawrence), and despite being a little sore at the end of the day, we thoroughly enjoyed it. If you want to really experience Wadi Rum, go with Bedouin Directions - and make sure you do it by camel, like in the good old days!”

Bedouin Visions

1/2  Day Camel Trek (approx 4 hours)

This Camel Trek is shorter than a full day, but long enough that you can get into the 'feel' of riding the Camel. It takes you down the most famous valley in Wadi Rum, and visits some key sites along the way.

The next day, we went back to the village riding camels. Sooo much fun (thank you Ahmed!) and a totally different experience to taking the jeep - it’s suddenly all so quiet around you and you get to really enjoy the scenery..”

Camel by Night!

Enjoy this magical experience, a one or two hour Camel trek travelling through the desert by night, under the stars like the three kings.

An absolutely stunning way to see the desert night sky. You really get a sense of the vastness of both the sky and the desert at night in a way that you don’t realize during the day. I completely recommend this trek and I have plans to do Camel by Night at least once more.

3 hour Camel Trek:

Camp - Rum Village (or vice versa)

This Camel trek can be taken from Rum Village to the Camp or from the Camp to Rum Village. Ideal for people who are arriving in the afternoon and maybe want to do a full day Jeep tour the next day. This Camel trek is a good introduction to the desert. It can also be taken from the Camp to the Village and it is a nice way to bid farewell Wadi Rum slowly. The light in the afternoon and early morning is always very beautiful and changeable. If you take the trek in the morning you should finish in Rum Village by 11am. If you take the trek in the afternoon you should plan to arrive with at least 3 hours of daylight available. This trek includes a mounted guide.

Prices:

  • 1 person: 60JD

  • 2 people: 90JD

  • 3 people: 120JD

  • 4 people: 150JD

  • 5 people: 180JD

  • 6 people: 210JD

2nd day we did a 3h camel ride (including the guide riding). My wife rode the camel like hell and the guide (Teysir) and I tried to follow her. This was definitely a unique experience as you feel sooo small alone in the desert with your “rented” camel.
I definitely recommend doing this as it was by far the best thing we did in our stay in Jordan.

The 2 hours camel ride was a different experience, it is a little bumpy, but well worth the experience.
All in all, Bedouin Directions camp is a wonderful experience, and their tours are very organised, guides are friendly and experience. One not to be missed :)
